Event Details

This year thousands of students from across the Twin Cities and the country have been researching this year's theme, "Sustainable Communities", and on March 3, 2012, over 300 of those students will come to Macalester College to present their solutions to some of the world's most pressing issues related to sustainability.

Support their efforts by volunteering your time on March 3 to ensure we have a successful event.  There are a  few ways in which you can help:

·         Judges are needed to evaluate student presentation. In addition to viewing presentations and filling out a detailed grading rubric, judges engage in a brief Q&A with students.  Anyone 21 years old or older with a passion for education and an interest in global issues is encouraged to participate as a judge! A brief orientation session is required for judges.

·         Proctors are needed to monitor classrooms.  This includes keeping track of the time for presentations, moderating a Q&A period between judges and students, and troubleshooting classroom, technology or presentation problems. No prior knowledge relating to the theme is required. Proctors must be at least 15 years old.

·         General Volunteers are needed to assist our staff in running the event. Tasks include monitoring classrooms, helping with registration and info table, being responsible for audio-visual equipment, providing information to students, parents and visitors, helping with food and refreshments for attendees and participants, etc.

It is truly inspiring to see how young people are thinking about these important issues.  We hope to see you there!

Please note that committed volunteers are critically important to making Challenge day run smoothly. Each volunteer has a personalized schedule for the day. As such, we ask for a 2 week cancellation notice if you are no longer able to volunteer. Of course, we understand that emergencies arise, but we appreciate your cooperation in helping us to ensure that the day is adequately staffed with volunteers. Thank you.
